In 2015, a new study reported that the most common cause of wasted time during the workday in a corporate environment is inefficient processes and duplicated efforts. And since then, even though businesses are making every effort to improve the way they do things, not much has changed it would seem.
That is how this Talmix consultant, Benedek Frank, knew it was time to make a change.
“What I love most about consulting is the ability to always do things that are useful. When I look back at some of my fulltime jobs, it was quite common for only 2 out of the 8 working hours of the day to be truly useful. The rest of them were either spent in meetings or being involved in inefficient and superfluous business practice”, he tells me. Benedek originally comes from Hungary and has had the opportunity to work throughout Europe. Now based in the UK, he runs his own Strategic Consultancy and provides marketing and strategic consulting services to small and medium-sized organisations, leaders and entrepreneurs in various sectors where he helps them revise their business strategies in order to entice and understand their own end customer deeper than before.
Having a firm footing within the advertising industry, after 8 years, through his work as an account manager, Benedek realised that what many clients needed was inevitably more than just an advertising or marketing campaign. They were after more – and so he started to actively work with clients, get into the ways that they operate and think, in order to deliver a deeper strategy bespoke to them. “Out of that grew this consulting mindset,” he says. It was then that he decided to pursue his MBA at Oxford University, and it was during this time that together with a team of his peers, Benedek won first place in an Entrepreneurship Project competition.
“After winning the competition at Oxford, I had gained the confidence I need to pursue a consulting career and I started to work with small-mid sized companies. In fact, as part of my MBA studies, one of the companies I worked with, I successfully helped win a grant of £250,000 from the Department of Children & Families which allowed their business education program to be launched in 66 London secondary schools”.
But Benedek is not just another consultant. Through a chance encounter with a book called Business Model Generation by Alexander Osterwalder, Benedek started to discover an entirely new way of consulting whereby he started to help customers get what they need by thinking of their goals in terms of business models and not business plans. Having also completed his Associate Certified Coach qualification, Benedek can offer his clients a more holistic consulting experience which allows him to understand their needs far more accurately and in so-doing, help them to reach their business goals more effectively. “I thrive on thinking within the customer’s mind-set and I love the opportunity to mix my advertising know-how with my MBA mind-set, allowing me to look at, and work with businesses more holistically”.
