Sometimes you just need a job doing by someone, not someone to do a job. Hiring can be impossible when time is short and specialist skills are even shorter. Do you persevere with hiring? Work with a specialist consultancy firm? Draw from your own network? As we move towards a new world of work the power of the independent workforce could be the alternative you need.
Your own network isn't enough
When you have a job that you need doing but it doesn't fit the capabilities of your team, it makes sense to go to the external person you know to get it done. But sometimes that person isn't available or doesn't have the specialist knowledge. Take one of our industrial engineering clients, for instance, they came to us because they needed to do research into an acquisition target specialising in Internet of Things. They needed someone with this expertise but they didn't possess it in house, nor did they know the person who did. The leaner approach
