Bridging the gap of a sustainable customer experience in the wearable tech world

When it comes to individuals who are driven to changing their client’s worlds, Talmix independent consultant Cecilia Lee surely stands out in the wearable and smart tech industry. An MBA educated marketer with over 7 years’ experience in luxury fashion and jewellery, the United Nations and the Smart Technology sectors, Cecilia’s CV is home to some of the world’s largest industry names and brands and she shares her journey so far, with us. 

“I’m a marketing specialist. After completing my MBA, I wanted to do something that would allow me to explore my creativity more, but would drive my career and passion for the luxury fashion and tech worlds forward”, she tells me. Establishing her roots early on in her career with the likes of Louis Vuitton, FedEx and Ogilvy and Mather, Cecilia knew she wanted to create a big impact, while awarding her with business agility and flexibility at the same time and eventually achieve her dream of pursuing a tech-based, fashion-infused career. It wasn’t too long after completing her MBA that Cecilia was awarded with a position within the Online Communications team at the United Nations. “I have always cared a lot about the social purpose behind something. Whether it’s the reason why a consumer buys the way they do, or the reason why a business makes the decisions they do. And it was after joining the UN team that I started to think about all of this in a much more sustainable way. Marrying the two, I realised that it became critical for business to bring adopt a more inclusive way of running themselves – where it was less about them, and more about them in their environment, and the impact they have on their world – regardless of how big or small that may be. That’s where I became interested in social enterprises – and helping NGOs with limited resources flourish and grow”. And it was after leaving the UN where Cecilia’s true passion to become an entrepreneur herself, was realised. 

“From a young age, I knew that I had an entrepreneurial spirit. And it was after leaving the United Nations that I started to provide independent consulting services to NGOs to help them become more sustainable – that’s when I became involved in the tech start-up industry in emerging countries. It was working with these NGOs where I realised the impact of my advice, and my involvement, truly made a difference to their businesses. In many cases I could physically see the impact – that’s what I loved most about working with smaller businesses. In larger organisations, it was often more difficult to see the final outcome of the impact you have – but with smaller businesses, it was almost instantaneous”. 

Cecilia’s tech start-up influence and her love of fashion soon developed into her own smart jewellery start-up business called Sanutus. Sanutus was all about helping women stay healthy without compromising style. “My role in the business was focussed on the general business strategy – keeping a close eye on consumer market trends, building relationships with a private investor community and more. I was also extensively involved in prototyping and product development from concept design to production”

Built on extensive experience throughout Cecilia’s career within the Fashion Tech and Digital Tech worlds, having helped brands like Louis Vuitton and the Richman Group with their internal control and supply chain compliance practices, Cecilia’s broad industry expertise has enabled her to work with clients all over the world and truly become a specialist hybrid marketer in the digital and tech worlds. 

Having successfully helped clients move into APAC markets, and Asian clients move into EU markets, Cecilia’s involvement in both the For Profit and the Non-Profit industries has given her insight into her client organisations that now see them entrusting critical customer journey and experiences into her care, in order to expand their own business and enlarge their own territory.
