Productivity Tools for effective Independent Consultants
The things that have become the most critical, all too often end up taking a backseat which is why being able to be able to look after business of today needs to be super easy, efficient, and quick – forming part of our routines, not defining them.
We’ve put together a few suggestions of great productivity tools that help Independent Consultants stay ahead of their game and continue delivering to and delighting their own clients.
1. Project Management
Keeping track of what you’re doing, when you’re doing it and who you’re doing it with, is critical to an effective project delivery. That’s why applications like Trello, Asana and Wrike were developed to make managing your projects efficient and easy. With most catering to both desktop and mobile applications, you can keep track of what you’re doing and what you’re sharing, while you’re on the go. Inviting team members to share and collaborate with you is straight-forward, and the pricing plans on most cater for all budgets.
2. Tracking your time
For those consultants who charge according to time spent on a project, being able to keep track, and more importantly, make the time visible to clients is critical. Your time and expertise is your product, so moving away from giving your IP away for free, these tools are great at helping you keep tabs on just how much you deliver and commit to any project at any time. A few examples of great time-tracking applications are Klok, Timecamp and Freckle and offer free and paid versions, depending on usability and function.
3. Managing your tasks and To-Do Lists
Many of us love a to-do list: Creating and executing them. And as an independent worker, having access to your to-do list on the go, wherever you are, is critical. That’s why applications like Tuex Deux and Wunderlist are great tools to keep yourself updated and ready to work – wherever you are. Similar to some project management tools, many of the Task Management apps allow you to collaborate with anyone, and allows you to set reminders when things need to be done.
