Q. When you’re at a networking event, how do you describe your independent career status, and where you focus your work?
Pricing, Monetization & Commercial Ops Management

Q. What are the specific benefits that you, as an independent, offer to the operating teams/portfolio company leadership? How do you explain the value your expertise brings?
I can quickly assess roles and responsibilities, understand how the pieces should better fit, align on the data with the team and execute fairly quickly. Management consulting firms are extremely costly and often lack the people and process aspect of delivering the sustainable change.

Q. Why do you think there is increasing demand for independent expertise with PE operating teams?
FTE's generally have less experience being that they stay at single companies for longer periods. PE teams want experience from multiple organizations. It helps understand different processes and the different ways of doing the same thing.

Q. Describe a recent or successful assignment in terms of scope, duration and any particular highlights in the outcomes.

I recently completed a 6 month project where I implemented multi-divisional pricing and contracting into a CPQ environment for a global organization. They previously had no understanding of sales, quantity and price data being there was no central ERP system. This set them up for future success in reporting their metrics and understanding their sales data.

Q. What advice would you give to anyone about to embark on an independent career as to how they can provide the best results for a client, while fulfilling their own career path?
Make sure to communicate the typical length of understanding the issues, aligning and executing. There will always be organizational drag which can cause delays if not managed correctly.

Q. What's your favourite thing to do when you're not on the clock?
Play music and travel.
